I sent a story in August 2003 for Little Tiger’s Search for a Story contest. I was so anxious to hear about this story. It didn’t win. I’ll enter next year. Oops. There wasn’t one in 2004. I think it’s only held every other year.

First personal reject ever
March 31, 2003March 31, 2003
The first personal reject I ever received was from Lynne Polvino at Clarion Books. It was my first submission to a book publisher, and my first reject ever from a book publisher. It wasn’t until 2006 that I appreciated the “personal” part of this rejection.
To be honest, it was a personal form reject, but still personal none the less.
At the time of this rejection, I had fourteen finished books and out of those fourteen, I only consider one of those near worthy of sending to a publisher in 2007.
This reject was for The Cat that Loved to Catch Curveballs.
Lessons to learn:
Be grateful for anything remotely personal when it comes to rejects.
Remember to get your work critiqued by numerous sets of eyes before sending it out.
